Cherry Simple Syrup
Ingredients
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup water
- 8 oz cherries, pitted fresh or frozen (approx. 1 cup)
Instructions
- Bring the cherries, water, and sugar all to a simmer over medium high heat in a pot.
- Simmer for about 10 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and mash the cherries with a potato masher. Allow it to cool and steep for ~15 minutes.
- Strain the mixture through a mesh sieve into a bowl/jar. Press down on the cherry pulp to extract as much syrup as possible. (You can freeze the leftover pulp to use in smoothies for extra fiber/flavor!)
- Store in a sealed container in the fridge. Keeps for about 3 weeks.
Notes
This is great in matcha or chai lattes, normal lattes, cocktails, or to make a cherry limeade/mocktail!
I usually do equal parts cherry limeade, tart cherry juice, and cherry limeade sparkling water, and add 1-2 tbsp of cherry syrup.
